Burning Bargain: Metropolis Blu-ray for $14.99 at Best Buy; Coupon Gets $5 Off In-Store
Outside of the occasional sale on their own website, Kino Lorber films don’t often show up at a discount, befitting of one of the only DVD labels to match the high-end catalog of The Criterion Collection. So it was a pleasant surprise this morning when Best Buy unexpectedly dropped the price of “The Complete Metropolis” Blu-ray to $14.99, down from a list price of $40 that usually hovers around $25 on sites like Amazon.
Fans of the Fritz Lang sci-fi classic fearful of a double dip can be assured that their old DVDs do not have this version of the film, which includes an additional 25 minutes of restored footage that were unearthed in Argentina in 2008. The disc also includes a new 50-minute documentary “Voyage of ‘Metropolis’” from Artem Demenok (the 2002 edition featured a different one by Enno Patalas) and an interview with Paula Felix-Didier – both of which chronicle the excavation of the long-lost footage.
The deal is available through Best Buy online, but it’s worth noting that it can be combined with another ongoing deal in-store where any DVD or Blu-ray regularly priced at $14.99 and up can be discounted with a $5 coupon here, expiring on July 31st.
